Dear Prospective Students and Families,
Thank you for your interest in Brooklyn Prospect Charter School. From the start of the admission process, Brooklyn Prospect strives to have a strong collaboration between families and the school. Please note that our school is growing a grade each year. In the fall of 2010 we will enroll only sixth and seventh grade students.
To place your student on our waitlist for admission to the 2010-11 school year (6th & 7th grade only) please email admissions@brooklynprospect.org. Please include your contact information including address of residence, your student's full name, current grade and school, and the applicant's birthdate. Thank you.
Applicants for the 2010-11 school year: (Please note that application to our 2011-12 6th, 7th and 8th grades will not open until September 2010.)
Following our April 7, 2010 admissions lottery, all families who applied for a seat in our fall 2010 sixth or seventh grades should have received a letter assigning the student applicant a lottery number. As explained in the letter the following deadlines have been established:
April 26 - Enrollment forms and proof of district deadline. In consideration of waitlisted applicants we ask that offerees inform us whether or not the student will attend Brooklyn Prospect in the fall by completing and returning the 2010-11 Enrollment Contract enclosed with the lottery letter.
For acceptances please additionally submit:
- Proof of district residency- a photocopy of any official document. The document must contain the parent/guardian name and address. Please write the student’s name and relationship to the adult on that documentation. Examples of official documents include a utility bill, lease or mortgage document.
- A completed, signed Consent to Release of Student School Records form
If we do not receive an Enrollment Contract, proof of district residency and Consent to Release of Student School Records by April 26, the student’s name will be removed from the accepted students list and we will offer the seat to a student on the waitlist.
AS OF 5:00 PM APRIL 1, 2010 OUR LOTTERY IS CLOSED TO APPLICANTS.

4. Enrollment (for the 2010/11 school year)
Following our April admission lottery we have are maintaining a waitlist for seats in our fall 2010 sixth and seventh grades. If you are interested in placing your student on the waitlist for the 2010-11 school year, please send an email with the student's name, current grade, date of birth, address, parent or guardian's name, phone and email to admissions@brooklynprospect.org You may also hand deliver or mail this information directly to the school.
Please be aware of the following:
- Brooklyn Prospect is located in Brooklyn's Community School District 15
- Based on legislation passed in 2007*, all New York City charter schools must give preference to students residing in the Community School District (CSD) in which the charter school is located. However, students who reside outside of our CSD are eligible to apply and may be admitted if space permits
- Confirmation of middle school district is based on proof of the student's residency in the district, not the elementary school district the student attends. To check Community School District (CSD) please enter your home address at this website: http://gis.nyc.gov/dcp/at/f1.jsp
- We are only accepting applications for students who will enter the 6th or 7th grades in the fall of 2010. The majority of our openings will be in 6th grade.
- Because we are a charter school signing your student up for Brooklyn Prospect's lottery will not affect the NYC Department of Education middle school process.
- In our lottery we exercise a sibling preference for families with more than one student living in a household. This is implemented for the applicant sibling of current Brooklyn Prospect students and brothers and sisters of Brooklyn Prospect admitted students. If a student in a family is admitted through the lottery, than the brother or sister applicant is automatically admitted as well. If you have two or more students in your household applying please fill in the bottom five (5) fields on the lottery application. If you are currently a Brooklyn Prospect family please contact your son or daughter's advisor and send an email, no later than March 30, 2010, to admissions@brooklynprospect.org informing us that you would like to enroll a sibling.
- If your son or daughter has an IEP, Brooklyn Prospect will work with the student’s Committee on Special Education to accommodate all children and their individual learning needs.
- Services are available to support children who are English Language Learners.
During the fall and winter preceding our April lottery drawing, Brooklyn Prospect will hold several in-house information sessions for interested students and their families . Please check our website to register for those sessions.
